Dukes Stage Rally 2010

Well the rough and ready overview of the day was that it started out bad but at least got better over the day. We had an issue again just before the start. We were travelling in convoy to the Jurby service area, I was driving the service barge and Paul was following us in the rally car and he disappeared on the tholt-y-will road. We spun around to find him parked up without any power and smoke coming out from under the dash...Doh! After some frantic searching we found that the cut-off switch has burn out and there was now no ignition power, so a quick reroute of the power and it was back up and running.

So we got to the start just and for the first two stages over Juby airfield ran fine. We got through the next four stages without incident again when we noticed that the there was a strange sound coming from the manifold like the exhaust was loose, at service we checked it but everything look fine so when out for the next four stages which was the Garey and Kella stages when we hit the next issue that we couldn’t select reverse. We had the issue earlier in the week where the lockout for reverse gear had started to rotate in the selector housing, so we pulled the box out and rotated it back but it looks like it had moved back. Again not a major issue just had to be careful not to overshoot any junctions. After that it was back to service where we could look at the exhaust problem again. It was noisy but not costing us any time.

We eventually found that the lambda sensor bung in the manifold has worked loose and gone flying off somewhere in Bride. Not much we can do there. So again off we go for the final four stages on BallaGlass and the Hibernian, two we were not looking forward to as they are rough as fook!!! We ran the first loop of two with no problems but on the road section coming off the mountain we hear knocking from the rear and after stopping to see if we have a puncture where I see the rear nearside damper bouncing around so it look like the insert has pulled itself out the damper body. Not much we can do as we don’t have spares for them so carry on for the next loop. The car survived that and again back to service for the final two runs over Jurby. This goes better than the morning as I get the maps right. So the good thing is that we finished, bad news is that we have a lot of work now to do before the Pokerstars rally in November. So far the list is

New lambda bung
New fia cutoff switch
Gearbox out to fix selector problem and an ongoing seal issue Diff out for new bearings
New rear damper
New front disc and pads

Luckily the car is going down to PACE on Saturday for a lot of the work

Well we have got a lot of on-board footage for once and have managed to upload that to YouTube today so you can have a look here
